Private Dimitri Petrenko (Russian: Дмитрий Петренко) was a Soviet soldier assigned to the 150th Rifle Division of the 3rd Shock Army during Globe War II. He is 1 of the three playable characters of Call of Duty: World at War equally the histrion controls him through the Russian campaign and makes an NPC appearance in Call of Duty: Black Ops in "Project Nova", a flashback mission with Viktor Reznov (Who is the playable grapheme) where he is killed.

Biography
Red Foursquare Massacre

Dimitri is first seen in the level, "Vendetta" among the many wounded and expressionless Carmine Army soldiers in a fountain at Blood-red Foursquare and goes unnoticed by playing dead. While trying to leave unnoticed, he comes across Sergeant Reznov who also survived the massacre. Petrenko is ordered to take Reznov'due south Scoped Mosin-Nagant considering Reznov could not shoot due to a manus injury. Dimitri sniped the High german sentries under the encompass of a bombing raid, narrowly killing their attack dog in the process and leaves with Reznov before an armored patrol spots them. After eliminating a German sniper, Dimitri and Reznov are discovered past the Germans and narrowly escaped from existence burned live in the building that they are hiding in. Simply when they are about to be killed, they are saved by the elements of the Ruby Regular army and provided sniper support for the attacking Russians and moved to assassinate Heinrich Amsel who was the High german officeholder that was responsible for the massacre at the square.

Capture

Three years later in the German countryside, Dimitri is captured and taken into a house by the three German soldiers. While the Germans were conversing and searching Dimitri's expressionless comrades, Dimitri tries to reach for a fallen comrade's Mosin-Nagant only to be kicked and punched in the face by a German soldier. Before they can execute him, however, a T-34 Tank blows a hole in a wall, injuring 2 of the three High german soldiers.
Reznov gunned the last German language soldier downwards and orders Chernov, a new recruit to execute the remaining German language soldiers. When Chernov refuses since they were already bleeding to death, Petrenko has the selection of executing his dying captors himself every bit he and Reznov take no compassion for Wehrmacht soldiers later the atrocities that they witnessed in Stalingrad. Later on executing or leaving the wounded Germans to die, Petrenko joins Reznov for the first time in three years in the final push to Berlin.

Upon their reunion, Reznov speaks a lot of Dimitri and often tells the other soldiers to follow him as an case, particularly to Chernov who seems to be shocked past the vengeful violence of his comrades against the Wehrmacht soldiers. The Reichstag

After recovering, Dimitri participates in storming the Reichstag, the seat of the German language Parliament and final Nazi stronghold. Yet, at the entrance of the Reichstag, Chernov is incinerated by a flamethrower and falls to the footing cough and writhing in pain, Reznov takes compassion on him and takes his diary and reads it. Chernov'due south death forces another soldier to behave the flag, although he is killed also during the final stages of the battle, forcing Dimitri to plant the Soviet flag.
Even so, when trying to heighten the Soviet flag, a dying Schutzstaffel Trooper severely wounds Petrenko by shooting a near-fatal shot at him with a P-38. As the lonely German collapses, Reznov charges frontward with a machete and repeatedly stabs and slashes the German to decease and throws his body from the Reichstag. Reznov cut the flag downward and tells Dimitri that the honour is his. Dimitri raises the Soviet flag over the Reichstag every bit cries of "Ura!" are heard from the victorious Russians.
Post-State of war and Operation Olympus

Two months later on, Dimitri still managed to fully recover from his wounds during the Boxing of the Reichstag. During July and August, Petrenko was assigned to the Soviet Occupation Forces in Berlin. In Reznov's flashback level, "Project Nova", onetime in October, Reznov and Petrenko were both assigned to "Unit 45," a Soviet special projects team under the command of General Nikita Dragovich.
Under Dragovich and Kravchenko's orders, Dimitri and Reznov were dispatched to capture a Nazi scientist named Steiner and secure a shipment of Nova-vi, an extremely toxic nerve gas from the terminal remaining Nazi base in the Arctic Circle. After Steiner was captured, he was brought back to Dragovich and Kravchenko to give them the location of the Nova-six weapon.
Decease
While they were successful to this end, Dragovich and Kravchenko betrayed Dimitri by using him and the other two men every bit exam subjects for the gas. Dimitri died a slow and painful death from the Nova-6 gas before Reznov's optics on Oct 29, 1945, at the young age of 22. Reznov, who was narrowly spared thanks to the British invading the ship to obtain the same weapon, sunk the transport to ensure neither side could possess the weapon but Dimitri's body was never recovered and was lost at sea.
Legacy
